Designed for Performance
I purchased this amazing 20 acre compound in 2017. It is located at 7,400 ft in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains only minutes from Santa Fe. Three years ago I started renovating the old workshop on the property to turn it into the recording studio.
The 900 square foot building is totally dedicated as a recording studio. It was designed and constructed from the ground up to be a recording studio with excellent acoustic qualities. The spacious main room features a lofted ceiling, acoustically treated floor and walls, and large windows to create a space that is excellent for recording.
Interior Design
The studio consists of four main parts: main room, control booth, drum booth and upper room with isolation booth.
The Main Room
The main room is the primary recording room. This spacious 700 square foot room has a 14 high foot ceiling and a cathedral type sound quality. All walls are acoustically treated with acoustic tiles. The ceiling has 4 inch by 10 inch beams that diffuse the sound. Inputs and headphone jacks are placed throughout the room. In the corner of the main room is the drum booth.
The Drum Booth
In the back corner of the main room is the drum booth. It has plexiglass walls that allows the drummer to have good visual proximity to the other musicians in the room. An insulated roof was added that has excellent acoustic qualities and contains a lot of the sound within the booth. This makes the drums and the cymbals have a beautiful tone. This booth can manage drummers with a large drumset. If drums are not needed for the session they can be removed to create an isolation booth in the main room.
The Control Booth
The control booth is in the corner of the main room. This provides the recording engineer good visual proximity for optimum control of the studio sound. It has insulated walls and is capped with and insulated ceiling. It is acoustically treated and works well for audio review of recordings.
The Upper Room
The upper room has lots of natural lighting and can be used as a place to review charts and coffee/tea are always available. In the corner of the upper room is an isolation booth roughly 8 ft by 8 ft. It is for the musicians that prefer total isolation from the main recording room. It allows for multiple takes of the desired instruments when needed. Vocalists will appreciate the open and comfortable setting of the large isolation booth.
